About Kayla Johnson
I have never been one to have a message with my artwork. There are no hidden agendas or masterful statements that I feel need to be spoken. Instead, I’d rather not use words. I’d rather admire the light, the shadows and the shapes. I would rather look, and look again. I want to explore how the sunlight exposes colors and reflections against the shapes that lay dormant in shadow. I want to acknowledge their differences for the sake of appreciating how one accentuates the other.
I don’t want to be held captive to just one style. I want to be both loose and tight, meticulous and messy... Or Neither. I want to allow art to be both a discipline and a vacation.
I obtained a.degree in Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in painting. Though very little of the program focused on watercolors I have used my education as a springboard to launch into further study.
In 2018 my family and I moved from Nebraska to Kalispell, Montana. It’s here that I became a signature member of the Montana Watercolor Society and a member of the Transparent Watercolor Society.
